Abstract

Indonesian building construction is categorized into two major categories, those are engineered building structures and non-engineered building structures. Non-engineered building structures are very vulnerable to lateral loads such as earthquakes, both moderate earthquakes and large earthquakes that cause collapse. Hence, mitigation needs to be conducted on the strength of buildings by relying on the strength of the masonry. Current research was carried out aiming to determine the stiffness changes and lateral deformation of the masonry wall structure with a mortar mixture of lime, brick powder, and sand due to lateral static loads. Furthermore, the object employed in this study was a wall with a size of 3 x 3 x 0.23 m using 1 stone masonry which was tested after 60 days. Based on the test results, the wall can accept maximum load of 68.38 KN and maximum deformation of 9.0 mm, while the changes in stiffness that occurred due to repeated lateral static loading caused the wall to have lateral failure.
