Abstract

The lack of solid fundamentals in the Indonesian economy has prompted the government to build an economic structure by taking into account the presence of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). This sector has been proven to provide employment and provide opportunities for SMEs to develop in society. The existence of SMEs cannot be doubted because they have proven to be able to survive and become economic drivers, especially after the economic crisis. On the other hand, SMEs also face many problems, namely limited working capital, low human resources, and inability to master science and technology (Sudaryanto and Hanim, 2002). Another obstacle faced by SMEs is the relationship between unclear business prospects and unstable vision and mission planning. Provision of market information and networks, easy access to funding, and assistance in information technology capacity building are some strategies to increase the competitiveness of Indonesian SMEs. Therefore, the synergy of all parties is needed, especially between the government and microfinance institutions.
