Abstract

In the 2017-2020 period, the average amount of waste production in Makassar City has not decreased significantly, making Makassar City the city in Indonesia with the largest waste production in Eastern Indonesia. In the 2019-2020 period, the amount of plastic waste production increased from 258 tonnes/day to 294 tonnes/day. Other data shows that household waste in Makassar City reaches 700-800 tons/day and increases by 1200-1500 tons/day on certain days. This description shows that in reality, waste management in Makassar City has not touched the root of the problem, namely the missing link between regulations issued by the government and people's consumptive behavior. The results of this activity indicate that there have been efforts made by the Untia Village community, Makassar City, in managing plastic waste into waste that has economic value managed by group management. In an effort to prevent the use of materials originating from plastic, there have been no significant efforts to limit their use. Therefore this activity aims to build awareness of Social Sciences, Unhas students and the village community about the effects of single-use plastic consumption and waste management.
